Keeping things tight this week. I’m trying to learn enough about reproductive justice and female/nonbinary incarceration to facilitate the virtual component of MUAVI’s Free Our Mother’s Day Vigil tomorrow without making a fool of myself. Facilitation is the closest I get to performing these days, so if you’d like to see me do something close to what I do best (and, more importantly, honor incarcerated caretakers), join me on Zoom from 11am to 1pm Central Time on Saturday.
The one thought I have for you this week has to do with the “more importantly” in that previous paragraph. Obviously, the justice is the most important part of the fight for reproductive justice. But in my constant effort to narrate my entry into these spaces as a cis white guy, I’m just gonna say, I think it’s okay to start the fight selfishly. I can admit this is a large motivation:
I don’t know much about abortion, period. And I’ve been a toxic dude for, mathematically, most of my life. But I trust the people I love when they tell me how vital and important this shit is, and while it probably shouldn’t be this easy to get credit for learning, as long as the credit’s available, I’ll take it. Call it fuckboy activism.
Got a response to something here? Want to work with me? Reply or comment, and I’ll hit you back.
THIS IS MY PODCAST, THIS IS YOUR AFTERLIFE
Lucia Whalen is a standup with an intense and incredible joke about infertility. It reminded me how much I like her, so I had her on the podcast this week.

MOOD BOARD
I’m raising money for abortions through Chicago Abortion Fund’s Fund-A-Thon. Hope and I set a goal of $1600, which is just over 10 times the average dispersement CAF gives to patients to cover healthcare, travel, lodging, and other costs associated with this life-saving procedure. We’re already over $100, donate to help us meet our goal and I’ll report the running tally throughout the month!
MAY I PLAY YOU A SOUND?
A dance spell to ward off oppressors.
